Merit Badge Requirements

All merit badge requirements are set by the BSA national organization and updated periodically. Always verify that you have the most current requirements before beginning work on a merit badge.

Official BSA Resources

The official merit badge requirements are published on the BSA website at meritbadge.org. Your merit badge counselor will have the most up-to-date requirements for each specific badge.

How Merit Badges Work

Step 1: Choose a merit badge and get your Scoutmaster's approval and a signed blue card.

Step 2: Contact an approved merit badge counselor through the troop or council.

Step 3: Complete all the requirements — always attend meetings with another scout or adult present.

Step 4: Have the counselor sign your blue card, then turn it in to the Scoutmaster.
